Why we started Splash

It started with a cold night, a dead battery, and a countryside cottage with no charger for 20 miles.

Here is how one awkward evening turned into Splash, and why we still happily call ourselves first-time founders.

A trip that wouldn’t charge.

Winter 2023. We had driven out to a little Airbnb on the England-Wales border, the kind of place with no phone signal and no public charger for 20 miles. Our EV was nearly flat and the temperature was dropping. The owner of the cottage next door had a charger sitting right there on the driveway, he was happy to help, but there was no simple way to actually use it. So we spent the evening untangling cables and working out a bank transfer instead of putting our feet up. That awkward night was the spark.

The chargers are already everywhere.

We kept turning it over on the drive home. There are hundreds of thousands of home chargers across the UK, most of them sitting idle on driveways all day, while drivers like us circle the block hunting for a public plug. The chargers were never the problem. The sharing was.

Airbnb, but for your EV charger.

So we built Splash. Hosts share their charger on their own terms: your price, your schedule, only the guests you approve. Guests book a private charger near home in seconds and turn up to a slot that is actually theirs. Sharing, caring, and a bit of earning on the side.

Still early, still us.

We are a small team of first-time founders, figuring it out as we go. If you have a charger gathering dust on the driveway, or you are tired of the public-charger lottery, come build this with us. Power for the people, quite literally.
